Nickel Babbit Bars
Babbitt is named after Isaac Babbitt (1799-1863), a goldsmith from Taunton, Mass., who developed an anti-friction alloy in 1839 consisting of Tin, Antimony, Copper and Nickel, suitable for use on bearing surfaces.
Nickel Babbit bars possesses excellent antifriction properties and sufficient mechanical strength. Manufacturers can use Babbitt metal to perform bearing repairs or to create new bearings lined with Babbitt. Babbitt lined bearings are used in in petrol and diesel engines, centrifugal pumps, turbines, concrete mixers and conveyors. It can bond to steel, cast iron and bronze as it has fluid forming capabilities, having a melting temperature of 240-268° C (466-514° F).
